"Know prudence B4 knowing "Jurisprudence"
Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu those days was known by his earlier name "Nimai". He was 16 years old. Having completed his education in Grammar, he had been making a keen study of `NyayaShastra/ Nyaayashaastra' (jurisprudence) and been authoring a book on the subject. At the same time his classmate Pandit Shri Raghunath ji was also busy writing a book titled "Didhiti" on nyaaya which eventually turned out to be a renowned reference on nyaayashaastra.
Incidentally, Shri Raghunath ji came to know that Nimai, too, was writing a book on the same subject. He expressed his desire to have a look at the book. The next day Nimai brought his book along and while both were crossing a river in a boat on their way to school, Nimai started reciting from his book. Raghunat Pandit became grief-stricken to listen to its contents. Tears began to roll down his cheeks. When in the midst of his reading Nimai raised his head to have a look at his friend, he saw Raghunath crying. Quite taken aback Nimai asked Raghunath, "What is the matter? What makes you weep?" Raghunath replied innocently, "I had been attempting to write a book on jurisprudence in the fervent hope that it would be regarded as the best and the most authentic source of reference, but my hope stands demolished now. Who would care to read my book after going through this magnificent book of yours?"
"Oh, come on! Is this very petty thought causing you so much of anguish?" Nimai burst into laughter like an innocent kid, "This must be an extremely bad book which caused so much of agony to such a dear friend of mine!" And before Raghunath could understand anything, Nimai had tossed his book into the river. Its pages had scattered and were flying afloat the waves of the holy river Ganga. Raghunath got speechless and was about to fall at the feet of Nimai, but Nimai's lifted him up with his broad limbs and embraced him with a caress soaked in love…
