MYTHOLOGY

The word mentor has its origin in Greek mythology. The king Ithaca of Odysseus went to fight Trojan War and before leaving for war, he entrusted his son’s education to a good friend, counselor and mentor who made the king’s son a competent person through his mentoring process.

As far as INDIA is concerned, mentoring commenced thousands of years ago in the form and style of Master (Teacher) and disciple relationship- an ancient concept of education wherein the disciple imbibed knowledge by living with the master (teacher). It is not like a business/commercial myth of present day, but an ancient Indian mythology,

The concept of mentoring relates to mental and emotional support extended usually by an elderly person to younger ones (not necessarily always) called a protege and the elderly person should be worth to be admired and trusted by the protege and such elderly person is called mentor and this relationship and process is known as mentoring. It is a supportive learning relationship between a caring person who shares his knowledge, experience and wisdom to another person who is willing and ready to benefit from it. The mentor helps to develop a greater sense of competence and identify the effectiveness in a professional manner and it benefits both, particularly younger ones, as they learn from the mentor as to how to live successful. Purposeful and responsible life. They get opportunities to resolve conflicts, understand and accept responsibilities, identify to set goals and achieve. The mentor in turn is satisfied of having played his role effectively and appropriately in mentoring peoples life and living.

Now let us view mentoring from the point of view of management.

Human resources is the most active, decisive and vital factor for any business organization. It helps optimizing resources of the organization without compromising in enhancing the production, efficiency and quality apart from maintenance, is also directly influenced by the dedication and involvement. Human resources play an important role in an organization for the benefit and betterment of the organization and its employees. It is therefore very essential that in todays technologically and intelligently knowledge driven scenario, an organization build up efficient and effective human resources by judicious application of relevant criterion. While counseling, orientation, training, indoctrination and mentoring are some of the potent and result bearing criterions in human resources developments, we will for the present concentrate on mentoring. This helps to mould and bind employees to the desired organizational work apart from making them have allegiance to the organization and espirit de corps amongst employees.

Mentoring process will assist youngsters to resolve or cope-up with all situations and becomes more effective. Youngsters develop positively in the company of those whom they praise and admire say for instance their bosses and colleagues at work who support and guide them. This type of relationship is known as mentoring. Mentoring concentrates on general development and psychological well being of persons apart from encouraging in performance analysis and identification of scope for enhanced improvement. Mentoring is considered to be an important aspect for an organization, as it helps to attract and retain talent a sine qua non for growth and success of an organization. Human resources is the essence of the knowledge economy and with uninterrupted increase in demand for highly skilled man power, the organization faces never ending pressure to attract, retain, inspire and motivate the best of talents and mentoring therefore plays a vital role on this. The top most executives of any organization will admit and admire, and will reveal the truth that mentoring is the organization’s high level of attention for expansion, growth, profitability and success.

Please note that employees of an organization are the real brand image and it is really a great challenge to retain this real brand images. These brand images can even be described as Star Performers. The present day’s star performers are in rat race for higher pay and instead of patiently waiting for career building opportunities and its only by mentoring the youngsters and star performers can be put to the right track of growth and success. Employers of the organization are required to take special note that the satisfied employees are the true brand ambassadors of their organization who shapes up the organization’s image and this could by and large be achieved through mentoring. Mentor also initiates to inculcate belongingness to the organization and thereby making employees motivated and inspired and makes them attached and dedicated to the organization. Which helps self-development, professional efficiency and acumen of the employees.

As per Hindu (Indian) mythology let’s go through the mentoring process and effects achieved and lessons to be learned from the process and effects. The most successful mentoring relationship is the one between Lord Krishna and Arjuna. There were numerous occasion when Arjuna got confused, depressed and was in deep dilemma the Lord Krishna came to the rescue of Arjuna reminding Arjuna of his righteous duties and obligation to perform without urging for the results of Arjuna’s action. Today many people are in the similar situation at different occasions and circumstances, at confused state of mind and dilemma, and are indeed in the need for an effective and real mentor to come to our rescue and help us out to find solutions as lord Krishna has done to Arjuna. What Lord Krishna has done to Arjuna is nothing but true and effective mentoring. When you compare Lord Krishna ‘s mentoring role to Arjuna in terms of today’s corporate scenario, you need to have a mentor with qualities like a leader, manager, negotiator, performer manipulator, motivator, inspirator and influencer all rolled into one (to be judiciously applied at the appropriate and needy occasion). Arjuna, when caught in the web of worldly relationships, attachments and sensitiveness and not able to move at all, its Lord Krishna through his mentoring process helped him to come out of the obstacles in the right manner. And at last the lord taught Arjuna – Seek not fruit of your action, but perform your duty in this world and dedicate it to me. It means nothing but, when your duty performed righteously ends, my action begins for a good end. There are so many instances to mention from the Indian mythology on effective and result oriented mentoring process and its effects but will take very long pages to present-hence taken from the prime and Holy Scripture Bhagavad-Gita.

At this right stage it reminds me to refer to appropriate Chapter IV verse 34 of Bhagavad-Gita, which conveys that a realized and true master imparts all sanctifying and significant wisdom. Understand this truth and surrender yourself to that master and render your services to the master who has realized the truth and will part with the wisdom to you. This applies more to the present corporate and management sectors wherein you find more of restless, confused and frustrated people with dilemma, dragging with their performance.

LIVING WITH DIGNITY

Today I happened to read a brief write up on a subject titled “ DYING WITH DIGNITY” and I was rather taken aback to know that there is going to be a power talk on this subject stretching for three hours by a legendary motivational speaker for a price.

To die with dignity one (any one for that matter) need not hear or listen to this kind of three hours of blabbering, pay and spend for it. Just follow the following “D” principles of living religiously to obviously attain death with the satisfaction of dignity.

Live Diligently
Live with Dedication
Live with Divinity
Live with Decorum
Live with Decency
AND
Live with Dignity

Once you implement the above “D” principles in your day-to-day living, the end of the life has to be with the total satisfaction of dignity.

Do not try to die with dignity. Do not be selfish to take away with you, your dignity when time comes for you to leave this world. Leave your dignity behind when you leave this world, for others to know and learn how to live with dignity. Guide others; lead others to know what is dignity and how to live with dignity without making it a commercial proposition. Share your knowledge in spirituality, occult science, motivational and inspirational thoughts and ideas for free and do not sell these to the people unknown/less known on these subjects. Any person who has lived his life, following the above “D” principles of life has never lost or deprived of his close-knit relationship like, wife, son, daughter etc.

I was injured to read the write up mentioning that depending upon ones own children at old age is a tragedy and to avoid this, recommends a plan the journey of life. The day you are born your journey has already commenced, you can’t begin a journey in between or in midway when you are already on your life’s journey. All that you can do is choose the right path of journey until you reach your ultimate destination (end of ones existence), without straining and tightening the relationships but strengthening the relationship with true LOVE (I would like to call it LOVE WITH NECTAR).” Guide and lead people rightly or else keep mum” that should be the first idea to occur in the mind of a motivator/ inspirator. Come on, do not play with lives of others most of who have crossed 20 to 80% of their life on the earth.

Be an embodiment of Dignity when alive and a monument of Dignity when mortal. Hence while parting knowledge to others on these kind of subjects, make it GRATIS instead of for GAINS by commercializing.

Let’s live in such a way that we are always useful to underprivileged & unprivileged ones whenever opportunity comes to us to parting/sharing with our knowledge on the above topics.

No one born in this world can escape or avoid death and it’s a universal truth and to face this truth one need not be under fear or scare. Be bold enough. It has to happen and it will happen and do not keep thinking about death and waste your useful energy and time and one need not be prepared in advance to face death. Do your duties keeping in mind the ‘D’ principles and the end will come unknowingly with the satisfaction of having lived in perfect harmony and Dignity. Always bear in mind and remember that living this planet is a privilege and not an entitlement as being misquoted to mislead and misguide people.

Knowing is not doing- doing is also not doing. Knowing and doing is doing. Understand this in its right perspective and perform your duties and live your life diligently with dignity.

No one in an organization can avoid or escape changes in the organization. Particularly Managers. How to cope-up with the inevitable changes that confront them and maintain organizational excellence? If the managers are to be effective, they can no longer be content to let the changes occur as it may, but must be able to develop and adopt strategies to plan, direct and control the changes in the organization.

It will be appropriate to have look at the “ORGANISATIONAL CHANGE-A PROCESSUAL APPROACH” by Mr., Patrick Dawson wherein he has formulated guidelines which should be strictly considered by organizational Managers to embark on a programmed of organizational changes. It’s as follows: -

1. Maintain an overview of the dynamic and long-term process of change and appreciate that major change takes time.
2. Recognize that transition process need not be marked by a continual improvement from beginning to end.
3. Be aware of and understand the context in which change takes place.
4. Ensure that change strategies are culturally and ethically sensitive and do not underestimate the strength of existing culture and ethics.
5. Consider the value of having a champion of change.
6. Affirm that the substance of change is fully understood.
7. Train staff in the use of new equipment, techniques or procedures.
8. Ensure Senior Management commitment and support.
9. Develop a committed and cohesive local management team.
10. Ensure that supervisors are part of major change programmed.
11. Gain trade union support.
12. Spend time developing good employee relations.
13. Clearly communicate intentions of change of employees.
14. Provide appropriate funding arrangements.
15. Take a total organizational approach to managing transitions.

Always bear in mind that change needs to be managed as an on going and dynamic process and Managers must act and perform as Leaders of change.

The factors responsible for organizational changes are: -

External factors: Such as Government Rules & Regulations, Technological changes, social and economical changes, changes in the international agreements pertaining to trade and tariff, environmental and pollution factors, health and safety norms, product’s life span high quality standards owing to customer requirements, adoption of new methods and technology in production change of
Machineries and equipments, fluctuation in the economic activities s significantly influences organizational changes. Currency fluctuations, Import control, fluctuation in the price of raw materials etc.
2. Internal factors: The internal factors for organizational changes are technological resulting into change in production process, organizational structure, human resources and tasks. The option for revising organizational structure includes lines of communication, reporting, incentive and reward system.

Changing the human aspect of the organization is a popular change strategy modifying attitudes, beliefs, values, and behaviour. As there are forces pressing for organizational change, there are forces resisting the changes. This resistance originates from the structure of the organization or from the people within the organization. Strucutural problems, in a large organization includes where authority is the rule and the precedence are the norms rather than initiative, innovation and flexibility. It is there fore essential while planning change one must ensure that the right information gets to the right people at the right time and in right manner. People related issues are major contributory factors. It emanates from uncertainty about career, job security, compensation, retirement benefits etc. Employees should not feel that they are redundant, unwanted and ill equipped to cope up with the demands as a result of the organizational change.

Managers are key functionaries responsible for the introduction and management of organizational change. The strategy of moving the status quo in the direction of effective change by using management skills as a pressure, fit in with corporate objectives and encourage individuals to lower their resistance to change, by creating an atmosphere of Faith and Trust. The process of managing the transition commences once the need for the change is identified. This involves a number of different activities and decisions both for individuals and groups in the organization.

During the phase when the change is implemented and becomes operational, the change process and people’s reaction to the change need to be monitored. There will be delays, setbacks, unforeseen problems and negative reactions from those who are faced with the reality of the change. This is to be considered as initial teething trouble and needs to be managed skillfully and appropriately.

Following the implementation of new organizational arrangements and system of operation begins to emerge and finally the change is institutionalized and becomes an inherent part of the organization’s, culture and operation. The Managers have to ensure to make the transition smooth, humane, totally professional and with out loss of any identity.

Mind is the master of human body. The mind, it is said, is of two kinds, pure and impure the former when free from the contact with lust and the latter when in contact with lust. Mind alone is the cause of bondage and liberation for men. If attached to the worldly affairs it becomes bound. If free from the worldly affairs it is liberation.

If thoughts are not dissipated, if mind is not perplexed then there is no fear while being watchful. Guard your thoughts, as they are difficult to perceive. Thoughts well guarded will bring happiness. Whenever and wheresoever the restless and unsteady mind may wander away, withdraw it from there and bring it under the control of Self. He whose passions are quieted, and mind perfectly tranquil, who has become one with the Supreme, being freed from all impurities to such a person, comes supreme bliss. Thus constantly holding the mind steadfast, the person whose sins are shaken off, easily attains the infinite bliss, born of contact with Supreme

The most potent thing to mould human life is thought. Thought is the motive power behind every action and its reaction of body, mind and senses and it is not actively limited to physical organism or its immediate surroundings It encircles vaster regions, and the variation of mind which exists arise from the difference in the development of the mind, which is its conveying medium. The power of thought in some minds shines effulgently than through others. The use and abuse of thought determines the destiny of man. When thought is rightly controlled and directed it lifts one ever higher and higher and if done in the reverse trend it drags down and prevents the growth. Thought is a creative force and if our mind is fixed on things, which are trivial, and unwholesome, very soon you will find your whole nature is coloured by them. On the contrary when the mind is fixed on lofty ideas, our nature is inevitably uplifted and transformed.

All our activities are preceded by thoughts. First we think, then we act and it becomes impossible for one to refrain from committing mistakes or evil deeds without paying proper heed to thoughts. It is very important to think consciously- an impulse comes, a desire awakens in the mind and immediately the whole thought is carried away by it, it takes the possession of the mind as if the man has surrendered himself to it. However when the mind is controlled and discriminative, one can avoid such dangers –Make right thinking a habit, it will help to perform all our duties in a right way. Right thinking will help us in awakening our intuition, establishing the tranquility in our whole being and cultivating strength of mind. This is what we need in order to think rightly.

We have certain responsibility in life and to meet this ably, we must learn to understand and you cannot acquire the understanding without bringing our thoughts under our control and mastering our mind introspective-in other words without gaining the power of concentrated thought. Think diligently and learn to adjust the forces within you-Find out and analyze what are your needs and defects, what are the causes of our mental disturbances and distractions and this can be done only when we look within us with clean thoughts and clear mind.

There can be no peace and rest for us until our mind is well collected and focused. A person who is tired and wants rest, lying on a soft bed, yet he finds no rest. Why? The reason is his forces are scattered, thoughts are distracted and unable to quiet his mind even though his body is totally free from activities. Some people are under the impression that resting means doing absolutely nothing- The mind is restless, to quiet it we must give up all thoughts, but cannot give up thinking as the mind will always be engaged in thinking something. Direct your mind only towards restful and subtle thoughts. When the mind is directed towards elevating objects, it will grow calm, serene and strong. This can be achieved through constant mental discipline. In the beginning it may be little difficult but as you try to focus your thoughts you will find how dissipated they are and this is nothing but the result of our own unconscious habits of thinking. To surmount these, cultivate counter habits for all thinking is a matter of habit.

There are 4 kinds of help, which can be rendered to our fellow beings.

1. You may give food, clothes or money to a needy man- GOOD THING
2. Offer education as education helps a man to open his eyes, teaches him to take care of himself as it gives him knowledge- GREAT THING
3. To save a man’s life, indeed a GREATEST THING- but death may seize him at any moment.
4. Teach a man how to control and direct his thought properly and rightly so that he may gain understanding or wisdom, for this will save his soul. HIGHEST THING

The first three forms of helps are unquestionably very good. But only the permanent help is to give people the mastery over all their powers so that they can stand on their own feet and work out their own salvation.

This however, cannot be accomplished in a day or by chance. We can acquire it only through regular practice. Our thought is such a mighty factor in our daily living, that one single thought in the morning can fill our whole day either with happiness and joy or with gloom and depression. All our power and all our weakness come from this one source. All the results we attain are according to our thoughts. It is the thought that determines the true value of every act. Therefore ever remain and live with pure essence of thought and tranquility of mind.

CRISIS MANAGEMENT & ITS RESULTANT EFFECT IN FINANCIAL
FUNCTION

Crisis management, prima-facie is nothing but the technique of facing and managing the crisis situations in the management of the organization. It could be in managing the crisis in production, marketing, personnel, FINANCE etc. The concept and objective of crisis management is “decisions have to be taken sensibly and instantly”

One of the main reasons for crisis in an organization is due to FAILURE in PLANNING, and the sources of crisis for crisis situations are due to mismanagement of organization’s resource i.e. FINANCE, human resources, and materials and of all these finance is of utmost important as it is the life blood of business. In many business organizations the top financial people (say CFO, CFC, Sr.Managers etc) are facing financial crisis and fighting the situations by finding quick but temporary solutions instead of finding integrated solutions and remedies to the financial crisis.

The financial crisis is of two types (a) short term crisis (b) long term crisis. The former is usually related to the operational modalities of the organization and is generally connected with “ funds management”. The latter on the contrary also known as strategic origin is of two types i.e. (a) genetic (b) brewed, the former arises as a result of situations born within the organization estimating the long-term requirement of funds for Capital Structure. The latter slowly emerging with the organization as a result of growth of Industry and products.

One of the main causes of short-term crisis is due to uneven cash flow created because of supplier driven problems –for instance the supplier of goods/raw materials suddenly imposes a stiff credit terms/squeeze, which was never anticipated by the Finance Manager. This will naturally end up with an unanticipated funds crunch. The prime supplier of materials, due to his own problems forces the organization to buy more than usual quantity of materials and insists on instant payment ignoring the credit terms, resulting in unexpected cash out flow. Customers also cause cash crunch to the organization. For instance an important& long standing customer, a customer of special significance fails to honour the financial commitments requesting the organization for extended credit terms all of a sudden, puts the organization into funds crunch and also the fact remains that the FM will find it extremely difficult to turn down the request of the customer.

Another major concern and cause of crisis is UNPLANNED capital outflows due to sudden turn of events in the organization. By way of unplanned modernization in technology. Diversification etc. will force diversion of funds meant for normal and usual operations, will lead to the funds crisis situation. Projects over run affecting cost and time will lead to increase in cost of funds, as the cost of borrowings is extremely high in such circumstances.

Genetic crisis is as mentioned earlier, born with the organization due to initial faulty financial planning and capital structure heavily based towards debt which will have to bear its own implications in on the cost of the capital, expectations of the share holders and on the debt service. The right planning would be that the cost of the permanent part of the working capital should be financed with long-term funds and any failure on the part of the FMs on this can cause technical insolvency to the organisation. Capital restructuring may also be done to rectify the technical differences and may need adjusteements in production, sales, recoveries and substitution of debt for equity.

Brewed crisis is a typical and long-term crisis and arises due to factors like industry competitors, Inter-company rivalry, and arrival of new entrants and threat of substitute products and will assume a massive proportion in the course of time. Yet another harmful effect is the increase of then new entrants causing rising capital cost, reduced market share, inter-company rivalry will result in increased market cost due to sales promotion measures and activities. It also forces the organization to expand the product range leading to cost increase with constraints for price revision.

It is all good for the customers. as their bargaining power increases, additional and favorable credit terms with delayed recoveries. This kind of quick change in the ratio will adversely affect the liquidity of the organization. The rule to be followed is that such crisis situations should be averted and anticipated than tackled. However limited the resources are, the FMs should learn to face the crisis situations. The degree of success is not in the number of times one falls into it or faces such situations but how quickly one recovers completely.

A true introspection on the matter will revel that nothing but failure in planning causes the crisis one after another.

Effective and efficient communication is one of the vital implements in management. If you are into managing your organization effectively and efficiently, your communication must also be at par, as you are into managing your organization. Once the communication is effective and has no escapism and loopholes but to be positively result oriented, once the results are positively oriented, you on the right path of reaching your aim and achieving your set target and mission within the stipulated time frame.

Kindly make note that major part of our active hours are spent in communication, it could be oral, written, reading, listening etc. The best of communication originates from the best of listener (my personal observation). It is also necessarily to be noted that effective communication is of utmost important in every aspect of life. Therefore it will not be out of place to reiterate that the communication is the capacity coupled with capability of an individual in expressing and conveying the ideas, feelings, suggestions, opinions etc. to another individual or individuals to evolve a desired response. In business quite often, the mere act of sending messages, memorandum, letters, holding discussions or delivering a speech etc is considered to constitute a communication. All said and done an effective communication is brought about only if it evokes the desired response from the recipients.” Passing on the bucks” should not at all to be encouraged in communication- it is too easy a job any one and every one can do. Convey exactly what you expect the receiver of the communication to understand, comply with and perform. If this is not contained and conveyed in the communication it is very clear that the effectiveness in communication of the sender is poor/low.

Make your expression in communication sensible, understandable and graspable by the receiver. To make this work this way the individual ability, clear thinking and skill in expression are very important. In organizational communication there has to be a properly devised system in all forms of communications. Be it individual communication or organizational communication both are vital and interrelated. It will be very important to note, observations of almost of the problems in human relations will by and large reveal communication flaws and failures, it could be organizational, personal or a combination of both.

In the present scenario, business environment is changing day by day. The average working day becoming longer and people are in the move than ever before as business is competing in a global market place. It will not be wrong to mention that work has become an activity than a mere WORK IN A PLACE. You find people keep working in flights, trains, and hotel rooms and even at home. People are in contact with business world while traveling. Outsourcing is becoming more common in business more so in corporate services. Employees, customers, outside vendors etc are forming virtual corporations to complete projects within the assigned time. Consumers too are turning for technology as never before and are in the look out for convenience and comforts within their working and living place with remote and on line access. Bank accounts, voice messaging SMS, mobile contacts, access to on line shopping etc has become a matter of routine in everyday living with a view to gain time to use in their personal lives. WHO WAS HE THE GREAT? READ AND FINDOUT

An incarnation of Goddess of strength and power, personification of dynamism and fearlessness arose from the experience of the immortality of the soul. Flaming words were the vibrations of his immortal soul. Powerful words and teachings like and similar to God become words as there is no end to his power reserve of his words.

His stupendous and marvelous works, while reading thrills like an electric vibration. A personality with puissant knowledge and immeasurable wisdom. He does not know at all what FEAR is. The fierce was not fierce and terrible was not terrible to him. His massive intellect was at par with his burning enthusiasm for the welfare of the poor. Had luminous and passionate vision to meet God face to face. This quest and thirst for God got him the breakthrough and made him a great monk.

At the age of 30, he stood as an intellectual giant and rose to speak at Chicago, USA, at the World’s parliament of religions. Sense of Indian righteousness flowed through his lips. Profundity of the message he delivered and the impact it created on the world was staggering.

An embodiment of energy with vibrations and was known as Cyclonic monk, Warrior monk, Indian Napoleon etc. for his dynamism. The triumphant march by him all over the country demonstrated to the people that Hinduism had regained its vitality and force. He breathed life into our moribund religion by forcefully explaining the strength giving ideas and ideals. He further explained and emphasized that “all power is within us”. Purity, unselfishness and sincere love for a holy and serene cause will bring out that power.

He further reiterated that “physical weakness is the cause of the human miseries” to some extend. He further re-emphasized that, this is not the time for us to weep, as we had enough of weeping, and this is not the time to remain soft. What our country now needs are muscles of iron, nerves of steel and gigantic will. Have faith in you and stand erect on that faith. Theme of his message was “arise, awake and STOP NOT till the goal is achieved.

It was indeed a great task and daring adventure to bring solidarity in the hopelessly divided Hindu fold. I t was of course of a matter of first blasting away the boulders of ignorance by the sheer force of his dynamic personality and every single word emanated from the granary of his spiritual experience. He symbolized India’s aspirations and vindicated our manhood in the eyes of the world. Pride, a self confidence swelled in the breast of the people and the enthusiasm swept the nation like a wild forest fire. The mental shackles were broken and India was made free spiritually.

And who could be this great personality responsible for all these? No need to guess. It is none other than the Great SRI SWAMI VIVEKANANDA.

The image of divinity of life is a projection of the thought in spite of diversity of thoughts which is natural and remediable. The erosion of the positive life building value is a major set back facing the modern society. Today’s modern person by and large is irreverent and casual on deeper questions of quality of life and as a result is not exposed to sane values. The healthy and ethical attitude of life can be cultivated; stability, integrity& loyalty of life can be actualized under different situations, if only the main objective of healthy scheme of way of living is sincerely and earnestly pursued. There is an emergency need for one and all to develop holistic view of life with realistic implementation and it is believed that noble and humble sense of understanding and realization may invoke interest in these directions for the seekers of peace, prosperity and happiness. Do not try to direct ones perspective to reach heaven but direct it to reach the supreme. Mind is the apparent cause and effect to reach your life’s aim... The question comes where is your mind? It is scattered all over the place in the world excepting where it is suppose to be. Bring it back inside oneself with tranquility and experience the greatness and happiness of supreme that lives in your heart rather than being outside of yourself. One should make life a ceaseless striving for higher degrees of peace, happiness and knowledge which can make life meaningful, harmonious and peaceful. JAGADGURU SRI ADI SANKARA

Born in Kalady in Kerala (now known as God’s own country) 788 CE in an orthodox Brahmin family to Sri Shiva guru (father) and Aryamba (mother). Parents under went penance at Vadakkumnathan Temple in Trichur, Kerala and as a result the Lord Vadakkumnathan appeared before the couple and blessed the couple for a divine child who would but be short lived- and in gratitude to the God, the child was named as Sankara (One of the many names to Lord Parameswara) The prefix Adi means Prime, Original & First was conferred on him after mastering all four Vedas at the tender age of 8 and later known and called as Jagadguru (World Teacher). Jagadguru Adi sankara lived only  just 32 years, 6 months and 10 days. During this brief span he did the useful and purposeful work of several long lives. His powerful mind, sharp intellect, rich personality, ceaseless activity, stupendous achievements were so much so, that he left an indelible impression on the hearts, minds and thoughts of not only his contemporaries but also of succeeding generations with evidence. He has to his credit numerous divine and religious writings of extremely valuable in nature in the form of verses and poems, which are being used today by the people and will continue to be used by people forever.

As a matter of fact, his name, fame, profounding thoughts and amazing organizing power influenced the lives and work of many and will continue for many new generations to come, and these will remain immortal even beyond the existence of universe (if at all happens) As already mentioned earlier, Adi sankara was a son of a humble and pious Brahmin and did not posses any worldly wealth or power worth to mention. He was a monarch of mind, thought and spirit of man and too subtle for mortal eyes. He was imbued with the divine compassion, which exerts in the direction of providing enlightenment to the humanity and blossomed as a moral leader, a mentor of mankind and the spiritual ruler of the world. He exemplified the success of spiritual power. Though transient, remained a world teacher all times. With short and light life attained long and heavy ideologies and religious creations in the form of hymns, versus and literature to understand the values and realities of human life and living . An erasable accredit to the whole universe and its living being.................................for ever.

ALEXANDER THE GREAT

Alexander was born BC356 in Pella, ancient capital of Macedonia to King Phillip II (father) and princess of Epirus later known as Olympias (mother) and lived for just 32 years. His relation to triumph is obvious. What is not known widely is how tragic was his life full of. Being the son of a king, he was able, strong, powerful and thorough. . Success and its impact were ephemeral for him. Had excellent motivating force behind him. He was ignited and fired by the ambition to become the temporal leader of people and ruler of world. Alexander exemplified the success of physical power and he became world conqueror for a brief period.

Aristotle was his teacher who trained him in rhetoric, and literature and stimulated his interest in science, medicine and philosophy

His father was assassinated in BC336 when Alexander was too young and took over the regime himself, which was in a very bad shape. He grew up to deal with disputes, revolts and rivals. He killed many people including his friends who were instrumental in saving his own life. Most of Alexander’s life was spent with problems after problem, miseries after miseries to end with mysteries.

He inherited from his father King Phillip II, the best military formation of his time he was the first great conqueror to reach Greece, Egypt, and Asia and up to western India from victory to victory and triumph to triumph, and created and empire.

After playing and doing all havoc, with people and country, near the point of his death, he began to believe he was a God and began telling his people that he was descend from Hercules, minted coins embossing him and Hercules in the coins-His mother Olympus was also instrumental in making him believe to be God and took control of the most of the known world and made people believe him to be God like and invincible.

He fell sick at a splendid entertainment party at Babylon, he was over drunk and yet after filling a huge beacon downed it a gulp and remained in bed for ten days with acute pain, sufferings and fever. Indeed an unerasable discredit to all his countrymen and other living being.

Are we heading towards a paradoxical tragedy and disaster in the name of MBA? Come on find solutions and prevent the happening of tragedy and disaster on a war footing.

Those were the days, when I trace back to my memory lane the qualification MBA had its accreditation, merit, name, fame, academic reputation, strength and status unlike the present scenario. It was indeed difficult to obtain the MBA qualification unless a student puts earnest efforts and serious studies to sit for entrance examinations, qualify in the entrance examination to get into effective MBA study. Those days there were very less number of business schools and imparting professionally value added MBA education added with, covering all parameters of management syllabus and applied management skills without compromises in texting and testing the students.

The present day’s situation is totally different to be indifferent for business schools. There are more number of business schools offering MBA education and equally more number of students seeking enrolment in these schools and at the end of the academic session walks out with their graduate certificate. As a matter of fact business education has now turned out to be a fortune and big business for the business schools and its faculty…Money is everything Honey has become the concept and policy of the many business schools. Many business schools imparting MBA education has dispensed with entrance examination and if you have money, you can have an MBA added to your name. Then again the currency you are able to manage will determine the country of MBA. Surprisingly and hardly any evaluation of the impact of business schools on either their graduates or professional management exists. A good number of business schools are ineffective with reference to the mode of study, substance of study, code of conduct and this will be evident when co-related with career success most of their turned out graduates. This further indicates how the business school prepares their students for the future. There is also hardly any evidence to establish that business schools research is influential in management development, skill and practice by its graduates. There are several occasions, MBAs miserably failed to manage not only crisis in the organization but also various other related issues as they lack in knowledge and wisdom as a result of inadequate imparting of MBA education.

It has also been observed by the articulate critics of business school, that the curriculum and syllabus is focused on analytics with hardly any emphasize on problem finding and solving. Over emphasize on analysis at the cost of integration and developing wisdom, leadership, interpersonal skills and teaching method, which forms the core elements of business management.

In a recent observation few of the most accomplished CEOs as quoted by the people most often, when asked, replied – None of them had business school degree and have still achieved greater heights and goals in their business. In fact Mr. Galvin of Motorola and Mr. Bill Gates of Microsoft did not even complete college. 40% of US CEOs as mentioned in an article “Why CEOs FAIL” had MBAs. The point of the observation is, MBA neither guarantees business success nor prevents business failures. It may also be noted that most of the best of business ideas in management for the past over a decade or so did not originate from business schools. Business schools considers themselves as scholarly communities through their academic journals that are totally divorced from the challenges of day to day management. While analyzing the actual effects of business schools on two counts of most relevance and importance (1) careers of their graduates (2) the knowledge they posses, the scenarios is quite bleak, There is hardly any evidence and scope to that mastery of knowledge acquired in business schools enhances the student’s career. Who has to be blamed? Of course the business schools for their ineffective coaching and teaching of the students.

The latest trend is that some of the leading business schools and institutes are entering into agreement/MOU to co-sign the MBA graduate certificate for a price, thereby leasing their institutional logo and image to the sprouting and mushroom new schools/existing low profile schools.

The solution to the problem is only by way of incorporating Regulatory authorities with stringent rules and governing procedures covering existing business schools and extremely stringent guidelines for the fresh applicants intending to open new business schools. The Regulatory authority has to ensure by personal verification and inspection that required infrastructure, systems and faculty staff and members are in its proper and appropriate place before grating permission to run the business schools. The Regulatory authorities should also consist of various committees and governing councils covering all aspects of business management consisting of experts in management field, management thinkers and management faculty under the direct control of Educational department of respective countries with independent panels with ample scope, power and authority for monitoring the activates of the committees as well as the business schools. After all the education should have its right value and standard and at the end of the academic term student should be enriched with knowledge-otherwise what’s the use claiming to be an MBA It is very essential to measure the aptitude, attitude, skill and tolerance of the aspirants before they are enrolled to business schools-Do not allow the schools to use money as a yardstick for entrance and enrolment as MBA students

Let all of us tray and put in earnest efforts to bring out Masters in Business Administration instead of Masters in Buffoons Administration. YOU OWE MORE THAN WHAT YOU OWN IN YOUR
PERSONAL LIFE


This time for a change I opted for a different and typical subject for the readers. I had been contemplating for quite sometimes on the subject in depth and as a result arose the subject title. I have a reasonable hope that readers will relish reading this, understand and grasp the essence in its right perspective and spirit to retain in mind rather than reading and erasing from the mind.


I have come across good number people and had personal interaction with them who are proud, happy, delighted and enjoys a sense of possession of what they own-be it money, wealth, properties, shares, stocks, bullions etc. Many of them are enthusiastic, exuberant, vibrant and happy over what all they own- One can keep a record of what all he owns and prepare a statement of one’s owning and at one point of time in life execute will to bequeath the owning to kith and kin-that being the one side of the life.




As a matter of fact no body owns anything whatsoever as mentioned above and we are all
temporary custodians of what we consider to own. It’s absolutely true if only one thinks deeper and realizes this truth. On the contrary we owe a lot to various others. You owe a lot to the divine supreme who brought to you to this world in human form. You owe a lot to your parents who were instrumental and taken every bit of care and nurtured untiringly for what you are today. You owe a lot to your best half (your wife) who is instrumental, influential and inspirational for what you are going to be in future, you will owe a lot to your children for what you are going to be at later part of your life and last but not least you owe a lot to yourself and you have to pay back by yourself to wipe off the owes (contemplate to contemper then you will realize what it means) it goes on like this never ending and immeasurable. I for one thing do not believe in monitory gains, compliances and compromises to pledge or give up the family relationship supposed to be retained clean and clear.

You make an attempt to keep a record of what all you owe to others- It will be a next to impossible task unlike maintaining a record of your owning.
Have you ever come across a person executing a will of what all he owe and to bequeath to his successors? According to me it’s never happened. If at all it happens as a rarest of rare event will one accept it? Not at all. Therefore it becomes imperative on the part of man to make best of efforts to clear what he owe to others to the best possible extent before bidding bye to his physical existence.

How do you clear what you owe to the divine supreme? It is he who has been kind and benevolent enough for all that you own. But for his kindness and consideration just imagine what you could have been? A big cipher. Think of him, pray in praise of him and let your prayer be of thanks giving, spent some time with him in solitude and silence daily, converse with him in silence daily and thereby make a beginning to pay back what you owe to him.

How do you pay back what you owe to your parents? Be kind and considerate towards them, express your love to them, show them your glowing and smiling face always, give them your love and affection, and always refrain from causing hurt to their feelings and sentiments (sentiments and feelings become particularly precious as one grows old)-when they are emotionally run down, re-charge and lift them up with sweet words of encouragement, comfort, soothing and old age motivation. It is not going to cost you monetarily- and even if one wants to repay what he owes to parents in monitory terms one can never achieve because it is beyond one’s capacity and reach to pay back to parents in monitory terms-just hold on to this and retain in mind.

How do you pay back what you owe to your best half? This is not that difficult according to me. Sharing is caring. You have to share all her moments with care. Express your true love and implement the true love in day-to-day life. Be concerned about her rather than worrying about her. For a change, change the policy of GIVE AND TAKE instead makes it GIVE AND ACCEPT (I hope your able to distinctly identify the difference between take and accept.). Having accepted her as best part of your life keep her in best form and mood always. Look her as A THING OF BEAUTY- to commensurate with the age-old saying A THING OF BEAUTY IS JOY FOR EVER and maintain this tempo. Outlook and attitude always. Concede to her reasonable desires and ambitions for mutual benefit and betterment of both. If you really follow caring is sharing policy coupled with taking care of her needs and moods you will not land up piling up of owes.

Now coming to children, you owe them much more than what you owe to others. It is on your own sweet will, wish and interest; you gave birth and brought them to this earth. Therefore it is imperative and essential and its your responsibility to bring them up in a nice and befitting manner with good academics, instill in them good values of living, ethics and etiquettes and make the world smile at them for their good conduct, deed and good living. This is the only stage in life of a man wherein he OWES A LOT AND OWN A LOT (of responsibility) in upbringing them in a perfect and harmonious way of living.

Similarly with every relationship in your personal life you owe more than what you own to maintain perfect harmony and understanding to lead a purposeful living. It is only the question of understanding this truth at the appropriate and right time at various stages of life so that you make a beginning to pay back rather than allowing to pile up owe and make it impossible to pay back.
Even though money, wealth etc. is every thing into-days living, it’s not ultimate. Ultimate is some thing totally distinct and different and one has to take careful initiative and interest to understand and abide by its ethics and principles to reap the incentive. What you own at the end will not accompany you when you quit this world but what you owe will not leave you and it will follow you and be with you in your come next on this earth. Therefore do not allow even the shade of the owe to accompany you. Leave this world with virtue, wisdom, knowledge and ethics. They will remain with you and accompany you when you come back to this earth again and will do lot of good to you and your succeeding generation.

Change prerogative into Privilege

CHANGE PREROGATIVE INTO PRIVILEGE

It’s with an earnest request, I would require the readers to distinctly understand the difference between Prerogative and Privilege with its real meaning and change the former into latter. It may not be that easy in the beginning to bring about the required change as suggested. But once a sincere and earnest effort is made one will certainly be able to make it and enjoy it’s reap and results in abundance.

Many of you must have heard enough and few of you must have even used the word Prerogative inappropriately in various scenario and occasion such as Board meetings, Discussions, debates, family/ social gatherings etc.Talkers and Speakers using this word Prerogative to emphasize and establish their power of position and circumstantial power to make and feel many in the in the gathering ,dejected, depressed and embarrassed. It all begins like this- It’s my prerogative to……….Its again my prerogative to………It’s once again my prerogative to……….. and its always my prerogative to…… and goes on like this for quite some times until they quench the thirst and satisfy the hunger of their EGO and failing to note and understand that its only a temporary phenomenon, paving foundation for inner guilt forever( and this will be realized only at a very later stage of life)

This usage of Prerogative revolves and evolves in the minds of certain people, be it in corporate situation/business situation, personal and family scenario, academics life/career growth path etc, just because people do not care to get away Prerogatives and substitute with privileges, because of their ignorance, and due to this the prerogative always super commands and maintain its perfect and fine edge over Privilege in usage.

On the contrary, if only the speaker/talker/others as the case may be replaces the word Prerogative with Privilege in all the places of its use during the course of the speech/talk,
/conversation etc, it would have created a tremendous amount of fine changes and desired satisfaction in the minds of the listeners and created an indelible best of impression of the speaker, leading to the privilege of elated image and contentment of the speaker followed by the loud applause and satisfaction of his listeners/audience confirming his mankind.

From the foregoing, the readers must have clearly observed that the root cause of using this word prerogative is mainly due to their EGO and at times due to their gross arrogance and ignorance. It’s easy to overcome this weakness- Do like this- replace the the alphabet E in the EGO with A and then it becomes AGO which shall mean the ego in the person has vanished and the EGO has now become a matter of past by becoming AGO. I hope I have been able to convey it rightly for the benefit of the readers and may all those needs to be changed from prerogative to privilege be graced by the Supreme Power to achieve this fact of the life and to manifest your lives with magnanimity.
