SANKALPAM &,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ITS MEANING.

Please READ this VERY USEFUL & KEEP it in a FOLDER easily referable.........JK

We do Sankalpam in all functions .

I saw this mail talking about Sankalpam and the depth of relativity of time .
You can have some idea about what we do many times .
It looks some part of Sankalpam should be different in other countries.

Sankalpam and its meaning

We are always curious to know the meaning of the Sankalpam that we take before the start of a pooja or a ritual. Firstly, we need to know the Hindu Cosmic cycle.

1 Mahayuga = Sum of 4 Yugas(Krita, Treta, Dwapara and Kali) =4,320,000 years.
1000 such mahayugas comprise a day-time of Brahma also known as a Kalpa.
The kalpa is ruled by 14 manus in succession.
The reigning period of a manu is onemanvantara which is 71.42 mahayugas.

There is an equivalent night-time of 4,320,000,000 years. The day-night of Brahma together constitutes one Brahma day (8.64 billion years). 360 Brahma days constitute a Brahma year while 360 years represent the lifetime of Brahma which is the life of the cosmos. Doing this simple calculation gives the age of the cosmos to be 311 trillion years.

Carl Sagan, the noted scientist says in relation to this, ""The Hindu religion is the only one of the world's great faiths dedicated to the idea that the Cosmos itself undergoes an immense, indeed an infinite, number of deaths and rebirths. It is the only religion in which the time scales correspond, to those of modern scientific cosmology. Its cycles run from our ordinary day and night to a day and night of Brahma, 8.64 billion years long. Longer than the age of the Earth or the Sun and about half the time since the Big Bang. And there are much longer timescales still."

We are presently in the Sveta-Varaha kalpa in the reigning period of Vaivaswatha - the 7th manu. In this manvantara we are in the 28th mahayuga. As per our Cosmology, Brahma is supposed to have completed 50 Brahma years and is in his51st year. That is why he is called "Parardha-dvaya-jivin"(ie) he lives for two parardhas. A parardha is half.

Two halves make one. He is called so as he has completed one half of his tenure. These terminologies makes better sense in relation to the Sankalpa.

The actual Sankalpa mantra and its meaning runs like this

".... Dviteeya parardhe - in the 2nd half of Brhama's life

Svetavaraha kalpe - in the kalpaof Sveta-Varaha

Vaivaswatha manvantare - in thereining period of the current manu Vaivaswatha

Ashta Vimsati tamey - in the 28thmahayuga of the current manavantara

Kaliyuge - in this kali yuga

Prathame Padhe - in the firstquarter of this yuga

Jamboodveepe - this denotes theplace where the ritual is performed. India

was known as Jambudveepa

Bharata Varshe, Bharata Kande -in the land of Bharat

Sakhabde Mero, Dakshine Parsve -to the South of the Meru mountain

Asmin Varthamane Vyavaharike -in the current period now reigning

Prabhavadi Shasti Samvatsaranam Madya - among the cycle of 60 years starting from

Prabhava

.....Nama Samvatsare - the name ofthe year in the 60 year Hindu calendar

....Ayane - Dakshinayane (Aadito Marghazi) or Uttarayane (Thai to Aani)

....Ritou - denotes the 6seasons or Ritus - Vasantha, Greeshma, Varsha, Sharadh, Hemantha

                 and Shishira

....Maasey - one of the 12 tamil months

....Pakshey - either ShuklaPaksham (day after Amavasya till and including Pournami) or

Krishna Paksham(day after Pournami till and including Amavasya)

....Subha Thithou - one of the15 days between Pournami and Amavasya

(Prathama, Dvithiya, Trithiya,Chaturthi, Panchami, Shasti, Saptami,

Ashtami, Navami, Dasami,Ekadasi, Dwadashi, Trayodasi, Chaturdasi,

                      Pournami or Amavasya

....Vasara Yuktayam - one of thedays of the week (Bhanu, Soma, Bhowma, Soumya, Guru,

                     Brugu and Sthira)

....Nakshatra Yuktayam - the day's star or Nakshatram.

After saying the above the name of the ritual is said. The Paramacharya says the Sankalpam is

a kind of record of what you performed with finer details going down to the dayand location

of the ritual. It seems to me the fore runner for a kind ofbookkeeping or a system of

maintaining minutes of a meeting.

Sankalpam: Detailed explanation

Let us understand the meaning of the phrases that the Sankalpam is comprised of.
To understand the phrases in the Sankalpam we need to understand the concept of the
Cosmic Cycle and Cosmic time calculations

Cosmic Cycle

Time, as per Hindu practices, has evolved and revolves around the life cycle of Brahma, the Creator. This is known as the Hindu Cosmic cycle. Cosmic cycles are infinitely recurring periods of the universe, comprising its creation, preservation and dissolution.

Time Calculations

We start by using a calendaryear as the basis. Unless otherwise specified, year shall mean a Calendar Year. One year for humans represents one day for the divine beings. 360 such divine days make one divine year. 12,000 such divine years makes a Mahayuga comprising the 4 yugas of Krita, Treta, Dwapara and Kali yugas.

i.e. each Yuga comprises of thefollowing calendar years:

• Kali yuga     --        432,000 years

• Dwapara yuga  -   864.000 years

• Treta yuga     ---   1,296,000 years

• Krita yuga ----       1,728,000 years.

Kalpa

Total for one Mahayuga (Also called Chatur Yuga) = 4,320,000 years or 4.32 million years.

72 Mahayugas constitutes one 'Manvantara' (i.e.) the life of a Manu, the law giver ( we are in the 28thMahayuga)

14 such Manvantaras make one dayor Kalpa of the Creator Brahma.

2 kalpas = 1 day and night of Brahma ( called Ahoratras )

360 ahoratras = 1 year of Brahma

Parardhe

Half the life span of Brahma, OR50 Brahma years. We are in the 51st Brahma Year, OR the second or Dwiteya Pararadhe

Two Parardhe : Life span of Brahma ie 100 years

After that, pralaya equal to the duration of 2 parardhas take place, and at its end, a new cycle starts.

Jamboo dveepey

Then , the Sankalpa refers to the geographical position of the place where the ritual is performed. This could be the historical or mythological name of the place. Sri Bhagavatham deals with the geography of the world in a great detail. It divides the world into seven dweepas. India is in Jambu dweepa and America in Krauncha dweepa.

Bharata varshey, Bharata:khandey, Sakhabde, mero: dakshiney parsvey
In the geographical part to the south of the Meru Mountain in the land of Bharata. Meru is the mythological heavenly mountain, and our planet Earth is south of it. Technically , this also means that this particular term merO:

dakshiNE pArSvE would be applicable to all parts of the world.

……nAma samvatsarE
Resuming the reference to time, the Sankalpa proceeds further as follows:

Samvatsaram is a Year. Hinducalendar has a 60 year cycle. Next year is Nandhana corresponding to the Year (2012 -2013)

……AyaNE (Ayanam)

As per calendars based on thesolar system the year is divided into two halves in accordance with the movement of the sun, Northwards and Southwards. The former is termed Uttaraayanam and the latter Dakshinaayanam.

Dakshinayanam (6 months) – Aadi to Margazhi

Uttarayanam (6 months) - Thai to AaNi

……Ritou (Rithus)

The year is divided into 6 seasons or RITUS, which correspond to 2 months

each of the Lunar Calendar. These are as follows:

• Chithirai & Vaikasi =Vasantha Rithu (March-April, April-May)

• Aani & Aadi = Greeshama Rithu (May-June, June-July)

• Aavani & Puratasi = Varsha Rithu (July-Aug, Aug-Sep)

• Iypasi & Karthigai =Sharadh Rithu (Sep-Oct, Oct-Nov)

• Markazhi & Thai = Hemantha Rithu (Nov-Dec, Dec-Jan)

• Masi & Panguni = Shishira Rithou (February/March)

……Subha-tithau (Thithis)

These are days of the month calculated from the day after Pournami, till

Amavasya, or vice versa.

Pournami/Amavasya + 1: Prathama

Introduction: ...............................................................

Aghamarshana Suktam is a jewel of Mantras appearing in Rig Veda, it forms
part of Maha Narayana Upanishad and recited during consecration ceremonies, Varuna
Japam, ablutions, while taking bath.  It is also recited in daily ritual after Varuna is invoked into the holy pot. Reciting this Vedic hymn while taking bath brings immense Punyam, removes sin committed by knowingly or unknowingly accepting gifts from those who have sinned. A dedicated decent lifestyle, self-discipline, righteous path were given utmost importance in Vedic period.

Cruelty and Sins were taboo and the society was well structured based on ethics. Filthy tendencies were brushed aside by people.  Gifts showered by sinned people were not accepted.  There is a clear cut reference to such an incident in Chandokyopanishad; "The King  calls five Veda Vidhwans and declare : "There is no thief, no miser, no drunkard, no unwise man, no adulterator in my country" - therefore, I request you to accept my gifts and contributions"  This denotes that a gift accepted from wrong or immoral person was considered a great sin and remedial measures were sought to expiate the wrongdoing. This hymn is named after............................................ Aghamarshana Rishi.

Of the rivers mentioned in this Hymn, only Ganga and Yamuna exist in India, Saraswathi believed to be running under the earth  and other remaining rivers flows now in Pakistan.

AGHAMARSHANA SUKTAM  - Meaning.........................

I take refuge in Varuna, who is of golden lustre or who has a golden diadem. O Varuna, being entreated by me, grant me the saving grace. For I have enjoyed what belongs to bad people and accepted gift from sinners. May Indra, Varuna, Brihaspati and Savita completely destroy that sins committed by me and my people in thought, word and act.  Salutations to fire hidden in water. Salutation to Indra. Salutation to Varuna. Salutation to Varuni, the consort of Varuna. Salutation to the deities of waters. (Through the power of this mantra).  let all that is injurious, impure and troublesome in water be destroyed.

May the King Varuna efface by his hand whatever sin I have incurred by unlawful eating, unlawful drinking and accepting gifts from an unlawful person. Thus being sinless, stainless and unbound by evil and bondage, may I ascend to the happy heaven and enjoy equality of status with Brahman. May the sin-effacing Varuna who dwells in other sources of water like rivers, tanks and wells also purify us. O Ganga, O Yamuna, O Sarasvati, O Sutudri, O Marudvrudha, O Arjeekeeya, come together and listen to this hymn of mine along with ParushniAsikniVithasta and Sushomaya. From the all-illuminating Supreme, by His resolve, the right and the true were generated. From Him night and day were generated. And from Him again was generated the sea with different waters.

Then, after the creation of the vast ocean the year was generated. Afterwards the ruler of the world of sentient and non-sentient beings who made day and night ordained sun and moon, sky and earth and the atmosphere and blissful heaven, just as they were in the previous cycles of creation. May the sin-effacing Varuna, the deity presiding over the waters, purify the taint of sin that attaches to the beings dwelling on the earth, in the atmospheric region and in the space between the earth and heaven and also connected with us (the performers of religious work). May the Vasus purify us. May Varunapurify us. May Aghamarshana, the sage called by that name, purify us. He, Varuna, is the protector of the world that was and also the world that exists at present between the past and the future worlds. He grants to the doers of meritorious deeds the worlds which they deserve and to the sinful the world of death called Hiranmaya. Again Varuna who is the support of heaven and earth, having become the sun is wholesome and attractive.

Being such, blissful in nature, thou O Varuna, grant us thy favours and purify us.
That Supreme Light which projected Itself as the universe like a soaked seed which sprouts (or that Supreme Light which shines as the substratum of the liquid element) – I am that Supreme Light. I am that supreme light of Brahman which shines as the inmost essence of all that exists. In reality I am the same infinite Brahman even when I am experiencing myself as a finite self owing to Ignorance. Now by the onset of knowledge I am really that Brahman which is my eternal nature. Therefore I realise this identity by making myself, the finite self, an oblation into the fire of the infinite Brahmanwhich I am always. May this oblation be well made. He who is a transgressor of the scriptural conduct, a recreant, a thief, a feticide or an outrager of his preceptor’s honour is released from his sins; for Varuna, the regent of waters and effacer of sins (absolves them from sins by the repetition of this mantra). I am the ground of sins. Therefore you cause me to weep. Wise men say (don’t make me weep, but favour me by destroying my sins). The Supreme represented as the ocean has over flown to the whole creation. He has created at first creatures according to the deserts of their various past deeds. He is the ruler of the universe and the munificent giver of gifts to the devotees. He dwells together with Uma (His power giving spiritual illumination) in the hearts of devotees which are holier than other parts of their body (the seat of the Divine) and therefore superior and elevated like a peak and affording protection. The Jiva who is his abode grows to be infinite. He is the Lord who delights the individual souls by guiding according to their deeds and conferring on them fruits of their actions.

Lateral Thinking.............Vs............Logical Thinkiing

Lateral Thinking Vs Logical Thinking..............

Many years ago in a small Indian village,

A farmer had the misfortune of owing a large sum of money to a village moneylender. The Moneylender, who was old and ugly, fancied the farmer's beautiful Daughter. So he proposed a bargain.

He said he would forgo the farmer's debt if he could marry his Daughter. Both the farmer and his daughter were horrified by the Proposal. So the cunning money-lender suggested that they let Providence decide the matter. He told them that he would put a black Pebble and a white pebble into an empty money bag. Then the girl would have to pick one pebble from the bag.

1) If she picked the black pebble, she would become his wife and her father's debt would be forgiven.

2) If she picked the white pebble she need not marry him and her father's debt would still be forgiven.

3) But if she refused to pick a pebble, her father would be thrown into Jail.

They were standing on a pebble strewn path in the farmer's field. As They talked, the moneylender bent over to pick up two pebbles. As he Picked them up, the sharp-eyed girl noticed that he had picked up two Black pebbles and put them into the bag.

He then asked the girl to pick A pebble from the bag.

Now, imagine that you were standing in the field. What would you have Done if you were the girl? If you had to advise her, what would you Have told her?

Careful analysis would produce three possibilities:

1 The girl should refuse to take a pebble.

2. The girl should show that there were two black pebbles in the bag And expose the money-lender as a cheat.

3. The girl should pick a black pebble and sacrifice herself in order To save her father from his debt and imprisonment.

Take a moment to ponder over the story. The above story is used with The hope that it will make us appreciate the difference between lateral And logical thinking.

The girl's dilemma cannot be solved with Traditional logical thinking. Think of the consequences if she chooses The above logical answers.

What would you recommend to the Girl to do?

Try to answer before scrolling down.

. Well, here is what she did ....

The girl put her hand into the moneybag and drew out a pebble. Without Looking at it, she fumbled and let it fall onto the pebble-strewn path Where it immediately became lost among all the other pebbles.

"Oh, how clumsy of me," she said. "But never mind, if you look into the Bag for the one that is left, you will be able to tell which pebble I Picked."

Since the remaining pebble is black, it must be assumed that she had Picked the white one. And since the money-lender dared not admit his Dishonesty, the girl changed what seemed an impossible situation into An extremely advantageous one.

MORAL OF THE STORY:

Most complex problems do have a solution. It is only that we don't Attempt to think.

Life will Get Lot More Easier..................

Life Will Get A Lot More Easier If You Get Rid Of These 6 Beliefs Today..........

As children, we don’t have any limiting beliefs. At this point in our lives, everything is possible.

We believe in superheroes, Santa Claus and we have big dreams about our future.

Then something happens and the world tells us otherwise. By the age of 11 and 12,society has a box shaped that we should fit in. Santa Claus and superheroes arenow for kids. Wearing a suit and tie becomes an option and we ditch any superhero outfit we had.

Culture has drilled these boxes so hard on us such that we often forget to question whether they are real or not. These boxes are the limiting beliefs and just becausesomeone else believes they are a reality, they don’t have to be ours. Here are the 6 limiting beliefs you should change from today:

1. Am not smart enough.................

You are. You are smart enough. Someone or something has led you to believe otherwise. It’s true, we all have a certain genetic level of intelligence gifted to us,but that is only a small margin of what our overall intelligence is. Smartness is
a product of studying, learning and lot’s of practice on a handful of things, then making sure you become the best you can at them. Being really good at justa few things makes you very valuable to a company or person needing those talents.
Don’t kill yourself trying to be a genius, just be the smartest in the room at something.

2. I am inexperienced.............

Everyone else is. If you look closely in the world, you will find that the wealthiest entrepreneurs are in their 20’s. They were ambitious and yes, young but they didn’t care if they had experience or not. Jump in with both feet and gain experience because being inexperienced is a blessing. You have the opportunity to approach problems presented with a naïve eye and can get solutions that even the experienced wouldn’t have thought of. Instead of complaining, own your inexperience while knowing that hard work and creativity will make up for what you are lacking in years.

3. It’s too late for me................

Look around you and history will prove you wrong. We have authors who ever wrote anything until they were in their 60’s or even later. We also have some of the most successful entrepreneurs who only tasted success until they were well
into their 40’s or later. The only time you should consider it too late, is when six feet under. If that time has not yet come, then it’s not yet late. You need to start now!

4. I can’t be happy until…...................

If you continue thinking like this, then you will never be happy. Just choose happiness; choose to be happy. Allowing happiness to either depend on a person or object is letting something out of your control dictate your happiness. Take your control back.

It’s a choice you have and you should take it. If you do this, you will be happy every daywhen you wake up, grateful for what you have instead of what you wish you had. Choose happiness today.

5. This is who I am...................

Yes, it’s who you are this second but what you will be a minute from now,a day, a year, has not been decided yet. We evolve and constantly change depending on:
the experiences we go through, our knowledge, our approach to growth and those who surround us. The person you are today is very different from the one you were a year ago or 10 years ago. It’s just like happiness, you can choose to let experiences washover your life or you can choose to let them shape you anddrive you into the next better version of yourself.

6. I’m busy.....................

I’m too busy…. to start my own business…to start working out…to be a parent…
to be with a friend. ‘I’m too busy is the most used excuse and people use it as a scapegoat in so many ways. If you still think you are too busy ask yourself this: what time do you wake up? How much time do you spend on social media? How much timedo you spend on your TV? How much time do you spend watching your favorite show or going through your favorite website? If you are honest with yourself, you will realize that you are not too busy. It’s just that you haven’t made your dreams a priority in your schedule.

Boxes society nudges us into are invented by someone else. People who have recognized that these boxes are not real, find enormous success, love, incredible happiness, and they appreciate the lives they live.

Shatter your boxes and all of a sudden the world will be an open playground, waiting to be explored. These boxes limit our beliefs but they only do so if we believe they are present. You can change that today and you should choose to!

Thoughts have........................POWER

Thoughts Have Power ................................
Each thought and each word has a form, an etheric form. That is why when a room is happy and you walk into it, you feel joyous. When a house is sad and you walk into it, you can sense that misery, for every thought you think and every word you speak takes form and shape in the ether.

Prana is mental energy. When you use mental energy, you make mental creations. When you use physical energy, you can create physically. With your hands, you can build a house, you can cook a dinner; you can do many things with your physical energy and your physical body. With your mind, through the use of prana, you can also create for yourself. How many understand the meaning of the words prana and mental energy? You would be surprised at the power that you have in your mind as an individual.

Every positive thought that you have manifests in a subtle world and remains there for the length of time that it took you to generate it. Everything that you make
with your physical energy on the physical plane will remain on the physical plane in physical form according to the time and effort that you took to generate it. If you have done a very fine job, it may remain over a hundred years. If you didn't put much effort into it, it will not remain long on the physical plane.

Let's think about the mental world for a moment. Suppose you are generating a thought for something good to happen, a positive circumstance you want to come your way. You concentrate upon it, and you generate it and you make the picture just the way you want to see it. Then you are happy and joyous. You feel as if it has already happened. Now suppose you drop into a lower state of consciousness. You begin to gossip. You use foul language and backbite. You lose control of your mind. You don't put your intuitive mind first. You put the instinctive mind first and begin to think: "Oh, that can't possibly happen because of this..." or...................... "I can't possibly do this because of that...." You are building a negative pattern of fear, worry and doubt that covers up the beautiful picture and snuffs it out. Then, when it does not manifest, you say: "My prayers were not answered. God was too busy helping somebody else. He couldn't help me." But you were the creator. You preserved it on the mental plane for as long as you could, and without knowing it you destroyed it before it manifested physically. That is one way you can go on through life, as so many, many Hindus do--blaming others for their own self-created failures.

Do you know what all of that is? Confusion of the mind! So, we have two alternatives: confusion or control. And we have all the spiritual laws to follow that help you control your mind. When the external mind is controlled, then the spirit or inner being, the Reality of you, can shine forth. Shall we say that a confused mind is like a cloud the sun cannot shine through? A
controlled mind is like clear ether which the radiance of the sun can shine through............................

Feeling GREAT & HAPPINESS.............

Feeling Great..............&............Happiness.............
Feeling great is about putting our life in order, rather than having a good time or feeling good at any cost; it is about bringing our inner world into harmony, developing the maturity to align our inner world of thoughts, attitudes and feelings with our outer world of actions, words and relationships. If there is confusion inside, there will be confusion outside.

There is happiness when each moment is used in a worthwhile way.Happiness is such nourishment that it can transform a person from weak into powerful. It makes difficult things easy and heavy things light. To remain happy and share happiness with others is a great act of charity. No matter what happens, your happiness should not be lost...

Emotions & Expressions.............

Emotions....& Expressions............

Respect the Emotions in some one's Heart rather than the Expressions on some one's Face...............Because Expression is just a Formality..................whereas  Emotions are Reality..

When somebody told me that he has failed in his exams, my question is, "Is it a law that you will pass every time?"
When someone told me that my boyfriend broke up with me, my question is, "Is it a rule that you will have successful relationships everywhere?"
When somebody asked me why am I in depression, my question is, "Is it compulsory to have confidence all the time?"
When someone cried to me about his huge business loss due to his wrong decision, my question is, "Is it possible that you take all right decisions?"

The fact is our expectation that life has to be perfect/permanent is the biggest reason of our unhappiness. One has to understand the law of impermanence of nature..............&..................
After each sunny day, there has to be a dark night, after each birth there have to be certain deaths, for the full moon to come again it has to pass through no moon. In this imperfection of nature, there is perfection.
So stop taking your failures and bad part of your life so personally or intensely,...........&....... even God does not like to give you pain but its the cycle through which you have to pass. Prepare yourself for one more fight
after each fall because even failures cannot be permanent...!

Interest & Commitment..................

There is a difference between interest and      commitment. When you're interested in doing               something, you do it only when it's convenient. When      you are committed to do something, you accept no excuses ..........but only results..

A BITTER TRUTH ABOUT U S A.....................A MUST READ

United States of America - The Bitter Truth................................A MUST READ............

Read and have a hearty laugh (if you haven't read it already). But the crux of the matter is, yeh

sab bakwaas hain - all foolish talk by idlers in the US and picked up and orchestrated by

journalists and other interested groups in all other countries.

Now, suppose the US suddenly turns inward looking and puts a moratorium on all imports

emphasizing on self-reliance (as India did until a couple of decades ago with disastrous

consequences with the country's annual growth rate remaining a measly 2 or 3%), what will

the other countries that solely depend on exports to the US, do?

This is what a candidate spoke in USA while making a speech for up coming election

Other than the US $, nothing is made in the USA anymore! Actually, this is pretty sad.

AND NOW HE'S HOPING HE CAN GET HELP FROM A PRESIDENT MADE IN KENYA
